No words can describe the pain we all feel for the Pittsburg
Conservative temple victims and their families and community. Like the
Jewish community in Pittsburg, we are also closely connected. The JCC and
the SLO County temple presidents will meet this week with City and County
law enforcement to review our security situation. We have our own plans to
improve security at TNS. We welcome your input.
While we have been a very open community, there are undeniable
trends of violence toward Jews, evidenced by upswings in anti-Semitic acts
in both the US and Canada. Although we have not been targeted with hate
crimes, TNS leadership has been grappling with this issue for some time. We
have discussed such issues with other temples as well as SLO police.
As our Rabbi spoke recently, we have not come into this world to
hate, but to labor, love and do acts of kindness out of love for G-d. We
will continue to pursue these ends as well as security for our children and
our community. Hopefully our government will seek justice and an end to such
Please give your ideas and thoughts to a board member and we will
continue to advise you of our choices.
Shalom to you and your families in this time of tragedy.
